3D File Converter

Convert between FBX, OBJ, STL, glTF and GLB in your browser.

The 3D File Converter reads an FBX, OBJ, STL, glTF or GLB file and writes it back out as OBJ, STL, glTF or GLB. Files never leave your browser for standard conversions: the tool uses three.js under the hood, so there is no upload, no queue, and no credits charged.

OBJ is a two-file (or more) format: the .obj holds geometry, a companion .mtl file defines materials, and materials can reference texture image files. Drag every companion file in together, or drop a folder or a .zip that contains them all. When you export to OBJ, the tool bundles the .obj, .mtl, and any textures into a single .zip download.

Every source and target format carries different information. STL is geometry-only, so exporting to STL discards materials, textures and animation. OBJ has no animation. glTF and GLB carry everything: that is the recommended target for web and modern game engines. Pick the target format that fits where you are shipping the file: GLB for the web, FBX for older game-engine pipelines, OBJ + MTL for lightweight tooling, STL for 3D printing.

FBX export is not available yet, three.js has no FBX exporter and the format is proprietary, so quality-first FBX writing needs its own path. FBX import works today. If you need FBX out, convert to GLB for now and re-export from your engine.

Tip

To keep materials on an OBJ, always upload the .mtl file (and any textures it references) alongside the .obj, or else materials will not be preserved.
