Sprite Studio: make and animate pixel-art sprites by picking pictures
September 28, 2026 Sprite StudioPixel artAnimationNew tool
Sprite Studio is live in beta. Describe a character, pick its size, view, look and palette from visual cards, then animate it into a 4-direction sprite sheet and export it straight into your game.
Making consistent, game-ready pixel art has always been the slow part of building a small game. Sprite Studio is our answer: a three-step studio where every option is a picture you click, not a setting you have to learn. It is live today in beta for every account, including the Free plan.
1. Make it
- Pick what you are making: character, monster, item, tile or effect
- Describe it in a few words, or start from your own picture
- Choose the size on real pixel grids (16 to 128 pixels), the view (side, front, top-down, isometric), the look (clean, retro, cartoon, detailed, 1-bit, blocky) and a palette (NES, Game Boy, PICO-8, DB16 or your own colours)
- Transparent backgrounds by default, so sprites drop straight into your game
- Make up to 4 options at once and keep the one you like
2. Animate it
Turn your sprite into a sprite sheet: walk cycles and idle animations in 4 directions, a tiny 32-pixel adventurer set with walk, attack, look around, surprised and lie down, or looping effects like fire, explosions and lightning. The built-in player lets you check every direction at any speed before you export.
For attacks, hits, deaths, jumps and spells at game size (48 to 128 pixels), use a Pose sequence: pick a preset or write 2 to 6 poses, and Sprite Studio draws each one from your character at the same size, on the same palette, feet on the same spot. And if you just need one new pose, "Same character, new pose" does exactly that.
3. Finish and export
- Change something with an AI edit ("add a red cape"), automatically snapped back to your pixel grid and palette
- Free clean-up tools: snap to grid, lock to palette, add an outline, trim empty space
- Export PNG, sprite sheet plus JSON (Phaser, Pixi and most engines), animated GIF or a ZIP of frames
- Save to My assets or send straight to the Pixel Editor and Sprite Atlas
Pricing
- Quick sketch: 20 credits per option
- Best quality: 60 credits per option
- Animated sprite sheet: 150 credits
- New pose or pose sequence: 50 credits per pose
- AI edit: 50 credits

Every price is shown on the button before you press it, and failed generations are refunded automatically. Pixel art is powered by Retro Diffusion's models, which we run for you, so there is nothing to install and no separate account to set up.
